Part Two of an Insider’s Look at NYC’s Specialized High School Series
Shockingly enough, this schedule is not only reserved to the everyday worker. Probably one of the city’s most hard working people are the diligent students who attend NYC’s specialized high schools. Their days extend past the usual 9-5 and their work is never done. Between homework, applications for college, special programs, or summer internships, extracurricular activities, these students never cease thinking about their future. My own experiences at Stuyvesant High School attest to the brutal daily grind that forced me to develop time management skills, discipline, and competitiveness and thrust me into the realities of adulthood. The hardest challenges I faced during my high school days was not so much the academic rigorousness, but the everyday struggles that came with surviving and maturing in a fast-paced, dog-eat-dog world.
